Dirty Dawg is the nation's premier vegan hotdog business, founded by longtime friends Edwin and Reina. Inspired by the iconic flavors of the San Francisco Mission Dog, Dirty Dawg is committed to redefining fast food with its innovative, sustainable, and ethical approach to plant-based cuisine.
Dirty Dawg's tantalizing menu proudly presents the iconic Mission Dog: a savory "bacon" wrapped hotdog nestled on a toasted ballpark bun, topped with caramelized onions, zesty ketchup, tangy mustard, and creamy mayo.
Reina Montenegro was born and raised in Dumaguete City on the Philippine island of Negros, and moved to the Bay Area in 1997. Montenegro prides herself as being self-taught in the kitchen, and started her restaurant career as a personal chef and caterer in 2012 when she decided, after 10 years at a corporate job, to follow her passion for food and cooking.
Montenegro has created dishes for Mayors Jean Quan of Oakland, Tom Bates of Berkeley, and the late Ed Lee of San Francisco. She also catered events for Apple, NASA, UBER, Twitter, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock Investments, and more.
In 2016, her catering business eventually led to opening a restaurant, ‘Nick’s Kitchen’ in Daly City. A year later she decided to change the concept to be aligned with her plant based diet and cruelty free lifestyle; as the first Filipino Vegan restaurant in the Peninsula. Montenegro opened 3 popular Filipino vegan restaurants in the Bay Area; Nick’s Kitchen, ‘Nick’s On Grand’ (opened 2018 in South San Francisco), and ‘Nick’s On Mission’ (opened 2019 in San Francisco).
Now she has pivoted her business into a storefront and has come out from behind the Nick’s brand, launching ‘Chef Reina’ in 2021 in Brisbane, CA with plans to do national shipping in the Fall. Reina is at her best when she’s creating in the kitchen. She enjoys spending quality time with great friends and her most precious humans, her children.
Edwin Grijalva is a born and raised San Francisco native of Salvadorean descent. His mind has been in the entrepreneurial realm since he was a child selling candy at school that he would buy from Coscto. That lead him into a journey of start-ups and entrepreneurship. He is currently the owner of 4 businesses and is a culinary enthusiast! Creating and being apart of companies has now become such a passion that he is always on the hunt for the next big thing!
Food has always been such a special part of his life which led him to explore the world of veganism. Through his new lifestyle change he saw gaps in the industry that weren’t being filled! He then created “Dip Monsta” the worlds first 5 layer dip that is 100% plant based! This was his first introduction to the food industry with his very own product that quickly gained traction. He was able to create a delicious snack that had been missing in the vegan industry!
Drawing on his entrepreneurial acumen and a fervent belief in the power of innovation, Edwin Grijalva has not only filled a void in the vegan market but also started a conversation about the importance of sustainable, inclusive food choices. His journey from a schoolyard candy seller to the trailblazing founder of "Dip Monsta" underscores a relentless pursuit of excellence and a deep-seated desire to make a difference through food. In founding our bacon-wrapped hotdog company, we were driven by a vision of offering a comfort food classic that everyone can enjoy, regardless of dietary preferences or ethical considerations. We're changing the perspective on vegan food and created a delicious, guilt-free version of this classic hotdog without compromising on taste or texture. We’re not just catering to vegans; we're inviting everyone to explore how sustainable eating can also be amazingly delicious without harming a soul :)
